The Macrofungi of Lane County Oregon
Have you heard about the North American Mycoflora Project (NAMP)? If not, here is their mission
- NAMP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are working towards a single goal – the development of the first comprehensive mycoflora of North America. This project is a consortium of citizen scientists and professional mycologists performing a biological survey of all the macrofungi that occur in North America.
Wow! That is exciting! Finally having all of the macrofungi (i.e. mushrooms) species in North America identified, cataloged, and mapped is quite an undertaking. So, it will take an army of citizen scientists to get the job done. But, if we each do our part, or more like document the macrofungi in our own area, the job gets a lot more doable.
So, what is CMS doing? Fortunately, we have several long-time CMS members who have taken on the task of forming the Macrofungi of Lane County Oregon (MLCO) project. They presented their plans to the CMS Board in January of 2018 and asked if we would sponsor them. Of course, the answer was a resounding yes! So, the MLCO project now has a web page to call home.
To learn more about the project and how you can get involved, click on the MLCO webpage; which you can always find on the top menu bar of the CMS website.
