A Tribute to Harriet Kelly
The picture above is at the top of the CMS Member’s foray page, one of the most visited pages on the CMS website. It is very fitting, as CMS Board Member Harriet Kelly is one of the most avid hobby mushroom hunters in the Cascade Mycological Society. It is with deep sadness that CMS must say goodbye to one of our dearest friends and supporters of CMS.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Harriet Kelly passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 26, 2019, after a very sudden and short struggle with what was thought to be brain cancer.
Harriet’s Board Member Biography
Harriet claims to be retired, but as much time as she spends in the woods foraging for mushrooms; she could have a career as a professional mushroom picker. But, that would take away time from her other hobbies of gardening, reading, rug hooking, fiber dyeing with mushrooms, and her latest new love … being a Grandma. Harriet grew up in Chicago, and spent some time in Eugene in her early 20s, but spent most of her professional career as a small business owner in Libertyville, IL. When it came time for Harriet and her husband John to retire, they decided on Eugene. Harriet joined CMS in 2007 and has served on the CMS board since 2010 in the capacities of Foray Coordinator and Membership Chairperson.
Those we love don't go away,
they walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near;
still loved, still missed
and very dear.
