Coastal Foray and Wild Mushroom Tasting – October 8, 2016

Join us for the first CMS member foray of the season on Saturday, October 8, 2016. We will meet in Eugene and carpool to the Coast to harvest edibles and collect other species for identification.

Pavel Gubanikhin will teach you about fungi families in fall, where they grow and why and how to harvest wild mushrooms in a safe and sustainable manner during a few hours wandering through mixed woodland. Pavel has been hunting mushrooms since he was a child growing up in Russia. He is the CMS treasurer and an amateur mushroom picker. Many of the beautiful photos in the CMS cookbook were provided by Pavel.

After we’ve filled our baskets, Heather Sielicki will fire up the camp stove and give a cooking demo and tasting. Heather designed the CMS cookbook and serves as the CMS webmaster and social media manager.

Tasting Menu

  • Penne in Chanterelle Champagne Cream Sauce
  • Wild Mushroom Frittata

This Foray booked up within 24 hours of us sending an email regarding the foray to the CMS Membership.

We will be having several Forays the week of Oct 22 to Oct 28 to collect mushrooms for the Mount Pisgah Arboretum Mushroom Festival.
Our next scheduled foray after the Mushroom Festival is Saturday, November 5th.
There are also Community Forays that CMS offers through Amazon Community Center. You can find the details about those on the Forays Page.  (Registration required, not sure if there are still openings).
You may also want to check the CMS Calendar as we post all foray opportunities that we are aware of, even if they are not CMS sponsored.
Thank you for your support of CMS and your interest in attending a foray.
