Take the next step on your fungal adventure. New developments in citizen science make it easier than ever to make a lasting contribution to knowledge of our fungi. Shannon will share her journey from learning to forage to an interest in taxonomy, steps which led her to describe a new mushroom species. Join her to find new ways to enjoy your mushroom hobby whether it is taking a few photographs to becoming the world expert in the mushrooms in your own backyard.
About the Speaker
I really like Cortinarius. I enjoy the challenge of Cort complexity, and the work required to name many species. This requires a process of ongoing observation of morphology, refining how we see to hopefully come closer to a concept of species and their distribution.
I am grateful for the support of the Daniel E. Stuntz Foundation, the Puget Sound Mycological Society Ben Woo Grant and the North American Mycoflora Project in my studies of PNW Cortinarius.
I live in Seattle, travel a fair bit and am looking forward to ongoing collaboration with those learning about Corts and/or working to advance our understanding of the genus.
