** Pre-Festival Forays **

Two forays are planned in the days leading up to the Mt. Pisgah Mushroom Festival.  The main goal of these will be to find specimens for display at the festival, though some edibles are likely to be discovered along the way.

The first foray will take place on the coast near Florence on Thursday, October 22nd. Anna Moore will be leading this foray and the meeting place will be in Honeyman St. Park at the East Woahink boat ramp/picnic area off of Canary Rd. at 10:00 AM. In the Siuslaw National Forest no permit is required for small quantities of mushroom collection, up to 1 gallon per person per day. Additional information on permits may be found on the Siuslaw National Forest website.

Hypholoma fasciculare

Sulfur Tuft

The second foray will take place on Friday, October 23rd in the Cascades up Hwy. 58, probably around the Waldo Lake area, but this may change depending on weather conditions. Chris Melloti and Joe Spivak will be leading this foray. To attend, meet at the parking lot at the Springfield Depot at “A” St. and South 2nd at 9:00 AM. This will be in the Willamette National Forest. For personal collection, a free permit is required and is available at Willamette ranger stations one of which is in Springfield. A commercial permit will be provided by the CMS for specimen collection. More information on permits is available on the Willamette NFS website.

Forays are limited to CMS members (and friends) only.

Mushroom Picking Permits
You should always check with all the federal agencies on whose lands you may pick before the beginning of each mushroom season to find out what the latest regulations are. If you are not picking on federal lands, make sure that you have the correct type of permission from the landowner.

On CMS-sponsored forays we usually visit federal lands, and you may need a permit. Obtaining a FREE USE PERMIT from the Willamette National Forest office (downtown Eugene) or a Ranger District Office before the trip is strongly encouraged.(Click here for additional mushroom permit information)
