Douglas Fir National Monument Foray – September 23, 2017
Join us for the first foray of the 2017-2018 season. David Stone, the President of the “Friends of Douglas Fir National Monument”, will be the speaker for our first meeting of the 2017-2018 season. Mr. Stone will talk to us about his organization’s goal to establish Douglas-fir National Monument. The following Saturday he will lead an outing to a section of the Cascades in the vicinity of Santiam Pass that is within the proposed area of the Douglas-fir National Monument. This outing will be dual purpose, to show us the area and also to foray for mushrooms. CMS Vice President Chris Melotti will be the CMS foray leader and the mushroom identifier for the foray. Not sure what we will find, but there have been reports of Chanterelles, King Boletes, and Chicken of the Woods in the vicinity.
To view the foray schedule for the 2017-2018 season go to our Member Foray Page.
Foray Registration limit: 12 adults, accompanying children with a Family Membership are welcome.
Foray Report: Not a lot of mushrooms as the soil surface is still quite dry, but the area was beautiful and we had lots of fun. Thank you to David Stone for being our guide to the Proposed Douglas Fir National Monument area, and for providing us with some great photos!
