Nearby Nature’s Lessons in the Learnscape Workshop
Mushroom Gardening for Food and Medicine (Sunday, July 18, 1-4 pm): Nearby Nature’s July Lessons in the Learnscape workshop will be taught by Jennifer and Dustin Olson, the owners of the Mushroomery, a biodynamic, organic mushroom farm in Lebanon, Oregon. These folks grow different mushrooms throughout the seasons, are passionate about medicinals, and love educating people about the importance of mushrooms and ethical mushroom hunting. In this class, participants will learn mushroom basics as well as how to inoculate dowels, set up a mushroom garden in a small space, and use mushrooms as companion plants. The workshop will also cover food and medicinal uses of Reishi, Shiitake, White Elm, Garden Giant and Chicken of the Woods mushrooms and participants will taste a variety of mushrooms.
Pre-registration is required and space is limited. The workshop costs $30 for members, $35 for non-members, or a work trade at the Nearby Nature Learnscape. To register, see the registration page, call 541-687-9699, ext. 2, or email info@nearbynature.org with Mushroom Gardening in the subject line.
